Your nerves can definitely get the best of you in this episode. We're talking to bum be grim of bi bi bi bum Be on how to calm your nerves so you can fully enjoy your boudoir session bum. He is the owner of B B Bye Bumby, which is located in Beautiful Sanford, Florida, as a wife, mom of three m small business owner there some days that she wakes up and just feels blah from dealing with the daily craziness. It wasn't until she had her own boudoir in beauty session that she was empowered in a way she never could have imagined. Her goal is to provide her clients with an amazing boost of confidence and for them to see how truly beautiful they are through boudoir photography sessions. Welcome, bumby Hi and so excited to have You Bumpy. I always love talking to you, and Bumby also does wedding photography, but she has a special passion for boudoir. So this is great to have you talking about this topic.

spk_0:   2:07
Yes, I'm really excited. It's one of one of my favorite parts of my business.

spk_1:   2:13
Now, one of the things about boudoir is obviously it's sexy, and you're going to be in probably lingerie or showing some skin, and when you're doing that, you might get a little nervous just

spk_0:   2:26
a little.

spk_1:   2:27
Yeah. You know, you don't really know the person you're getting in your underwear in front of them, but it's such an empowering thing. And I'm sure your couples are I'm sorry. You're, um, clients after they're done with their session, I feel more empowered than ever.

spk_0:   2:41
Yes, I agree. They totally d'oh. And it's fun to watch them when they come in. They're like these, you know, Shy people kind of closed off my favorite or like the ones will come in with, like, their sweaters on leave at the end of the day. Like they're in tank tops, their hair split back, their chins up their shoulders back. And it's like, Yes, that is why I do it.

spk_1:   3:03
Yeah, because I mean, it is such an empowering thing. So how do you get what we're gonna be talking about in this episode? We're gonna be talking about how to get out of that sweater and to get out, walk in like a rock star. So how do you get into that mindset? What is the first thing that you can do before your session to prepare you to kind of ease those nerves,

spk_0:   3:22
Thio, ease the nerves. I think it's super important, too. Build the report with your photographer. Whether it's me or anybody else, build that report. Um, you know, with my girls when they could, you know, when they schedule their session with us. One of my biggest first things that we do is we schedule, call, chat, get to know each other. Um, because what I find in that session is they can see that I'm I'm just a normal woman. Like they are. Um, you know, I have all the same, you know, I freak out, too. When I did my session and I photographed them, I was very, very nervous. But building that report with my photographer and getting to know her, um, or him because there are some, you know, male good war photographers, especially in getting to know them. I feel like that helps ease a lot of the uncomfortable feelings that you might have or the nervousness that you get. Definitely, you know, schedule that call. Don't be afraid to like we do tours of our studio for gals to come in and be able to see the studio get to meet with me, sit down and talk a little bit if they want. Half the time we do it over phone or we do video chat because I want them to see that I'm a real person to ends. For them to get to know me. Because once you're comfortable with me, then like the magic can happen on be yourself. So I think definitely scheduling a phone call and getting to know your photographer. Another part that I find is really helpful is I'm very big on this is your boudoir session. You want it to be about you and what represents you and what you feel sexy and beautiful in. Because what I might think it is what sexy and beautiful is completely different from the girl down the street. So planning that session, we do that for our clients to where it is, what they want and what they feel comfortable in their their version of sexy and beautiful, whether it is, you know, super skimpy lingerie. Or you might be a little bit on that tomboyish side. So maybe a little bit of like a big sweater with a bear boy cut underwear and some leggings or you know, a T know a tank type. The sky's the limit on that, but it's all about being what you feel is comfortable in sexy. Because I feel like that is a big part of how to feel comfortable and relaxed is making sure the outfits that you chose are true to who you are.

spk_1:   5:54
Right? Cause if it's something that you normally wouldn't wear and then you come into the session and you're just you're just uncomfortable starting because you wouldn't normally wear that

spk_0:   6:03
exactly exactly. So that's why I feel like that first phone call that we schedule and we get to know each other and then we schedule. You know, sometimes we knock out the prep chat and that same phone call. Sometimes we schedule a completely different phone call because I feel like those two first touches. Once you book your book, your session is super important because you're building that relationship with your photographer. And that way, when you get there, some of those nerves some because there's always the ex owner. But at least that good portion of like I have no idea who this person that I'm about to get half naked in front of his. It's definitely helpful, and I find it very helpful with my clients on my end as well. Them so

spk_1:   6:50
right, Yeah, and it's a mutual thing. You wanna have that connection with whoever's photographing, you mean? And you know that from the wedding world to that goes hand in hand with wedding photography.

spk_0:   6:59
One of the things I tell my girls that kind of could be helpful to with easing those nerves a bit is what a couple more things that you can do leading up to the session plan to your you know, your hair done X you know, kind of like those little touches before leading to get get you excited and not stress about. Oh my gosh, it's coming up soon, but like going to get your hair done the night before over the evening before going and pampering yourself. Sit down. Go to your favorite nail salon, drink a glass of champagne. You're getting your nails done for your session. I find that little pre pampering definitely helps. Um, some of the other things people laugh at me, but I do this often like I've been caught by my husband doing this But I I will get online and just kind of like research a little bit. Or I'll find myself, like practicing some of the poses myself, even some of the facial expressions, just to kind of get a feel for what it's gonna be like. I know it sounds silly, but I will honestly have to say my girls who actually take that advice and do that when I tell them you know, don't be afraid to practice some of the some opposing techniques that you might see on my on my website with some of my girls. Don't be afraid to look at some stuff on Pinterest and get some ideas. Look at that. How they're doing their You know, their facial expressions. Look at yourself in the mirror and try it. My girls who've done that, or just like I'm so glad you told me do that, cause I force myself to do it. And I'm like I realized two things. We usually say I can pull off any Look, I like this look more like this or some of it will be like I'm not so much of like the static, sexy look, girl. I like the more playful. It's a silly, fun, playful girl, you know, sexy look. So that's kind of good, too, because then it's playing more to the role of who they are.

spk_1:   8:53
So they've gone out and they pampered. And they've gotten ready for this awesome experience which, honestly, that could be included as part of the ex whole experience of getting, you know, your boudoir session done. So now it is the day of, and that's probably when the nerves are gonna be at the highest, because you're walking in and you don't really know what to expect. Even though you've talked it through, you're still getting ready to do this. It's really now. So what happens right before the session that helps calm those nerves.

spk_0:   9:19
What you know, once they arrive in studio, you know, one of the biggest things that we want to make sure is when they walk through that door there, taste of music is playing because that's gonna put them at ease. So that's something that you know, we find out beforehand so that when you walk in, you're walking into a great you're comfortable in with the music that's playing, sitting down, going through those outfits together and planning out, you know, obviously giving them if they hadn't done schedule a pre, you know, session or a a pre studio tour given them a tour of the studio. So, you know, though, each got a tour of the studios. That way they can see they have their own private changing room area. Um, but really, it's the fun that we have, where you're getting your hair and makeup done. You know, I sit there right with you with our makeup artists, and we all just have some fun relaxing girl talk. Um, lots of laughs. Lots of jokes are told. Andi, it's just a great time to really get to know you and for you to get to know me and obviously the makeup artist who's doing your hair and makeup, that definitely works. Another thing, you know, that I think it's super important, and everybody laughs at me. But all of my girls go through a quick five minute before we start your session posing 101 Uh, this is where you really get tau laugh because I'm you know, you're dressed in lingerie or whatever your office might be. I've got my camera gear strapped to my hip and I'm trying to, like, show you poses. But I do go through each pose of what to expect, what it looks like just so they have an idea of what I'm saying. You know, push your shoulder out a little bit more, you know, push that chin out, put it down just a little bit. Look up through, you know, through your lashes at me, I show all of the little things that you're going to hear me say or what I want you to do during the session. So that way, when it comes time for you to do it, it's not like I don't know what your name. 10 4 down. I don't know what you mean by work. That shoulder forward. What do you mean? I have to point my toes all time like I go through all of those posing tips. So that way, you know what I'm talking about. When I'm calling them out, some of it, you know, might be a little bit posed. But it's a lot more of directing, constantly keeping you moving with stuff so that when you don't feel so static and stuff with your posing but really showing you are opposing 1015 minutes before I feel is really, really helpful. And they they tend a I find that when I'm doing that, they're mirroring me as I do it, which is great, because then at that point and be like Okay, yes, that that's what you're gonna I go through the expressions that they're gonna hear me calling out what I want them to. D'oh! Um, so I really feel like that 1st 5 10 minutes, however much we end up spending showing the posing, showing the looks, all of those really has been helpful.

spk_1:   12:19
And I love that because it's kind of like a dress rehearsal, because if you're in the moment of it and you're not really understanding what your photographers telling you to do, and then there could be some, like anxiety and frustration because, like, I got to get this right this in my session like there could be so much going into that that just having that little dress rehearsal prior helps ease the nerves. I

spk_0:   12:39
agree. I agree 100%.

spk_1:   12:41
So when it comes to we're in the session, we've done the 101 posing. We talked through hair makeup. We're looking fabulous. We're ready to do this. What if your nerves start getting the best of you in the session? What can you D'oh. Um I'm

spk_0:   12:57
pretty good at noticing that with girls that I can honestly say, But some of the things it's a simple as take a deep breath and they'll even be times that I could tell there tensing up a little bit. And, you know, I'll just say, you know, close your eyes right there. Breathe in and out. Everybody's like breathe in and out so surprising when you focus on your breathing how you tend to relax your shoulders how you tend to like that tension that was built up just kind of slowly releases as you breathe in and out. Um, so a lot of ah, lot of breathing right now, arms are a lot of breathing, really does help. Everybody thinks it's silly, but once I do, I'm like can close your eyes breathe And now okay, open your eyes and look at me. There look is way more relaxed. They're completely have cleared their mind. And one thing that I also find two is changing up the outfits at that point. By the time they tend to start tensing up a little bit, that's usually run the first EP outfit. I will honestly say once they hit their second outfit, my girls were like pros. They, uh I feel like there. Their nerves are gone by like that first outfit. But simple breathing, resetting, reset, Reset the pose. If you feel that little bit of attention, don't be afraid to speak up you like Hold on. I need to shake it out and I'll even tell my girls. Shake it out a little bit. Okay, now let's go back to it and they find, like that's helpful, like don't be afraid to speak up and say Hold on. I needed to shake it out of it and that, you know, because it's kind of like then you're you know, you shake away the nerve, huh? But yeah, definitely. Breathe

spk_1:   14:41
Well, I love how you said about the communication part. Like just say something. This is their session. So don't be afraid to be like, you know, I think some people may be a little hesitant because you you are the professional. But if they're not feeling it, you in the end, I want to have the best pictures for them. So you want to make sure it all works out great. And I bumby is so much fun. And I know she'll keep you laughing the whole time, So

spk_0:   15:06
yeah, usually it's I say, put my foot like they're like, Do you realize what you just said it like, you know, like, Oh, yeah,

spk_1:   15:15
she's unintentionally funny

spk_0:   15:17
that, Yeah, I don't mean to be It just has, uh

spk_1:   15:22
and we love before upon me.

spk_0:   15:27
That is when I'm, you know, trying to show you oppose and doing stuff in studio. And I'm tripping over my own furniture and there and

spk_1:   15:35
you'll have fun in all ways that you could think you'll have a good time for sure. So these were really great tips, and I really, you know, just a side note. I would definitely encourage, you know, our couples or I keep saying couples, but our brides or even anybody, even if you're not getting married boudoir is such a great thing. It makes a great gift for your future spouse. Yes, but it's amazing gift for you, and it just makes you feel good about yourself. So percent and go in. Check Bumpy's website out.
